Salah satu tempat paling terkenal di Pompeii, House of Vettii atau Domus Vettiorum secara resmi dibuka untuk umum setelah 20 tahun restorasi.

Rumah mewah yang baru dipugar ini kemungkinan besar milik dua mantan budak, Aulus Vettius Conviva dan Aulus Vettius Restitutus, yang menjadi kaya melalui perdagangan anggur.

Pengunjung bisa melihat gambaran yang luar biasa tentang kehidupan rumah tangga di Pompeii, kota Romawi yang disebut juga kota maksiat pada zamannya.

Masih banyak lukisan yang terpasang di dinding memperlihatkan kehidupan orang-orang Romawi.

Diketahui Kota Pompeii ini terkubur di bawah abu vulkanik yang dimuntahkan dengan ganas dari Gunung Vesuvius pada tahun 79 Masehi. Puluhan tahun kebelakang, Pompeii mulai digali dan dipugar oleh para arkeolog.

Pengungkapan rumah yang dipugar ini adalah tanda lain dari kelahiran kembali Pompeii, yang terjadi setelah puluhan tahun pengabaian birokrasi modern, banjir dan penjarahan oleh pencuri untuk mencari artefak untuk dijual.

Pembukaan House of Vettii menjadi daya tarik pengunjung dan para ahli sejarah karena menyajikan wawasan segar dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dari apa yang merupakan salah satu sisa dunia kuno yang paling terkenal.
