Bali - Ngerebeg adalah sebuah tradisi unik warisan leluhur di Tegalalang yang masih bertahan sampai saat ini. Para peserta akan mewarnai diri untuk mengusir roh jahat.

Dozens of children and teenagers, covered their bodies in various colors like monsters as they participated in the Ngerebeg ritual in Tegallalang, Gianyar, Bali on Wednesday, 8th of February 2023. This ritual has been performed for years and passed down from generation to generation. Ngerebeg is held the day before the peak of the Pura Duur Bingin's piodalan (celebration of the holy place's anniversary), which occurs every 210 days according to the Balinese calendar system. The monsters in this ritual walk around the village of Tegallalang for 6 kilometers to purify the mind of Bhuana Alit (the human body) and Bhuana Agung (the universe). Warga berkeliling kampung dengan memakai riasan warna-warni saat ritual Ngerebeg di Desa Tegallalang, Gianyar, Bali, Rabu (8/2/2023).

Tradisi berkeliling kampung dengan riasan tubuh menyerupai mahluk menyeramkan tersebut dilakukan oleh warga setempat untuk menciptakan keharmonisan sekaligus sebagai penolak bala.

Tradisi ini pun hanya melibatkan anak laki-laki saja hingga seka truna termasuk mereka yang sudah dewasa sebagai peserta.

Para peserta ini berjalan dengan riasan menakutkan dan berwajah seram, menggunakan beraneka warna yang menghiasi tubuh dan wajah mereka, termasuk juga pernak-pernik agar mereka tampil seram.

Wajah-wajah seram peserta tradisi Ngerebeg tersebut adalah simbol atau wujud dari wong samar (makhluk halus) yang biasanya suka mengganggu anak-anak.

Tradisi Ngerebeg ini secara rutin digelar oleh 7 banjar adat di desa Pekaraman Tegalalang, Kecamatan Tegalalang, Gianyar Bali, karena warga percaya jika ritual ataupun tradisi tidak digelar akan terjadi hal buruk yang akan menimpa warga desa mereka.
